creating aN individual Praxis to support collective Racial Justice and Liberation work
When we develop a praxis, we grow our capacity
to process stress, fear, and vulnerability in our head, hearts, and bodies;to practice awareness, care, and accountability for owning how we show up in our personal lives, in our work, in the world;to align our values and vision with how we choose to be in the world.
We need not only the ability to settle ourselves in a world of seemingly endless activation, but also the capacity to see that activation. We must be able to identify how we are processing emotions and stress to begin our own work. This necessitates we physiologically close that emotional cycle and claim the ability to choose how we show up in the world. We can choose to use our experiences to strengthen resiliencey, recovery, and response skills, and learn to care for ourselves as well as one another.-
Practice and Praxis.
Knowledge and intentions are brought into use only through practice—or for our purposes praxis (practice informed by the why of our values)—which is embodied and repeated commitment to our ways of showing up in the world
-
Relationality.
Everything centers on prioritizing the building of healthy and respectful connections; when we shift from transactional exchange to relational connections we can contribute to the development of a liberatory culture. When we attend to our own needs and choices, we learn how to attend to work with others.
-
Generative Somatics.
When we infuse an understanding and practiced awareness of the science of our nervous systems with the intention and attention of how we want to be in the world, we can bring our full selves to our work, and make the impacts we believe will matter.
